A Two-Tone Roadsmith Trike Conversion for a 2017 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic

Many Harley-Davidson riders assume that buying a trike means trading their motorcycle for a factory-built Tri Glide. Cheryl chose a different path.

Instead of replacing her 2017 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic, she converted the motorcycle she already loved into a Roadsmith independent rear suspension trike built specifically for the way she rides.

For Cheryl's build, we installed a Roadsmith HDTR independent rear suspension trike conversion, along with several upgrades that improve comfort, handling, and convenience.

Built for Better Touring

At the heart of this build is the Roadsmith independent rear suspension. Unlike a solid axle design, each rear wheel reacts independently to changes in the road surface, providing a smoother, more controlled ride for both rider and passenger.

To complement the suspension, we also installed the Roadsmith steering kit. By changing the steering geometry, the front tire meets the road at a more favorable angle, reducing steering effort and making the trike noticeably easier to maneuver, especially during low-speed turns and long days in the saddle.

Additional upgrades include an electric reverse, painted running boards, a performance sway bar, ABS retention, and a chrome rear bumper.

A Custom Two-Tone Finish

One of the standout features of this build is the custom two-tone turquoise and white paint.

Watching the body move from primer, to the paint booth, and finally onto the completed chassis is always one of our favorite parts of the process. The finished trike body and running boards were painted to match the Harley, giving the entire motorcycle a clean, factory-quality appearance while adding a custom look that fits Cheryl's personality.

The black machined wheels provide a modern contrast against the bright paint, while the custom artwork on the chrome adds another personal touch that makes this Harley uniquely hers.

Ready for the Road

After final assembly, and road testing, Cheryl's Ultra Classic left our shop looking like it had always been a trike.

Every Roadsmith and Hannigan build is different because every rider has different priorities. Some are looking for long-distance comfort, others want standout looks, but they all want to continue riding the motorcycle they already love.

For Cheryl, this conversion meant exactly that.

If you're considering a trike conversion, we're always happy to answer your questions, explain the differences between the available options, and help you determine what works best for the way you ride.
